Mentoring Services:
South Coast
Children's Society provides Mentoring Services to
children and youth (aged 2 to 18) currently receiving
services through a Wraparound providing agency or as
designated by the county since 2006. These services are
provided seven days a week from 6 AM to 8 PM. The
Mentor program currently (as of 11/06) has one full-time
female mentor, full-time male mentor and one full-time
bi-lingual (Spanish) male mentor. We have served 30
youth throughout Orange County in our Mentor program.
The
Mission/Objectives:
Ø
To provide culturally competent services
to families and youth requiring a positive role model or
instruction in life skills.
Ø
Provide one to one services that is
individualized for each child and family
Ø
Through individual coaching, the Mentor
will work with each child to prompt, encourage and teach
more socially acceptable ways of interacting with peers
and adults as well as learn skills such as daily
grooming and personal hygiene.
Ø
Mentoring extends to the parents in the
form of coaching and guidance in developing more
effective ways to handle their child’s difficult
behavior as well as improving general parenting skills.
South Coast
Children's Society has several services that may be
provided to the family at the termination of Mentoring.
Individual and Family therapy as well as TBS services,
Wraparound and Medication Support Services are available
for those clients eligible for Medi-Cal. SCCS also
provides therapy in specialty areas including Recreation
and Emancipation therapy. Every effort will be made to
provide bilingual staff as needed for each family.
South Coast
Children's Society currently provides services to the
Developmentally Delayed population as well as other
Regional Center clients. SCCS staff have worked with
autistic children and those with medical disorders
including Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida and organic brain
disorders.
