Our Mission Statement South Coast Children's Society, Inc. is committed to the healing, growth and restoration of children, teens, young adults and their families.
Founded in 1984, SCCS set out to take a leadership role in filling a critical hole in the safety net of Southern California's many communities by providing shelter, care, therapy and essential support services for those who are too often left behind: abused, neglected and underprivileged children and youth - and struggling families. Over the intervening 25 years, SCCS has grown and expanded to provide a wide variety of services, not just for the most needy in our society, but to people in all walks of life who "sometimes need a little help".
As an agency comprised of dedicated clinical psychologists, licensed therapists, mental health professionals, child & family services experts, mentors, social advocates, and caregivers, we at SCCS believe it is our responsibility to promote and uphold life-affirming values. We teach these values to our staff, our children, and the families with whom we work. INTEGRITY: Truth and honesty, above all things, at all times. RESPECT: To treat people with mutual respect and dignity, on all occasions, no matter how trying a particular circumstance or crisis may be in the moment. NURTURING: To provide love, support and empathy to all those we come in contact with everyday. PERSEVERANCE: To put forth an uncommon degree of effort and dedication towards making a difference in the life of a child by asking ourselves if we have done every possible thing to help each of our children grow, heal, and develop. SERVICE: To give our best to support and improve the community in which we live, for the benefit of our society, our communities, and our children. |

When Emma arrived at South Coast Children’s Society, she was displaying anger outbursts daily and sometimes even several in a day. She would oftentimes become harmful toward herself and those around her. She was only 11, and she’d been living with a single grandmother who was overwhelmed by the situation. Emma received intensive treatment over the next four years as SCCS staff joined together with Emma's grandmother to provide a Team Approach. Over time, Emma made tremendous progress and she was able to reunite her grandmother.
