For abused, neglected, abandoned, and special needs children

For more than two decades, South Coast Children's Society has been a leader in providing residential services whose hallmark is quality care, compassion and expert treatment to abused, neglected, abandoned, and special needs children between the ages of 10 and 18. In most instances, the children in our homes have been removed from their families because of abuse and/or neglect. We also have children with behaviors or developmental challenges that have impaired their abilities to be successful in their home and school settings.

We provide our children with a home environment enlivened with the presence of warm, caring and engaged adult caregivers who help them meet their core living needs in order to create stability.

Other important aspects of our Group Homes services include:

  • We provide a high level of care (Level 14-Dual Diagnosis).
  • We work hard, and excel at, creating a highly structured environment coupled with a nurturing, therapeutic milieu.
  • Many of the children we ultimately help to be successful have come to us after experiencing difficulty and failure in multiple prior placements.
  • Our children are taught a wide range of life and adulthood skills that cover topics from basic personal hygiene to job readiness, the nuances of public transportation, and budgeting.
  • We collaborate with educators to design individual educational plans for each child.
  • We go out of our way to expose our children to a variety of community-based outings and recreational opportunities to develop their social skills; for many of them, it may be the only opportunity they have for such experiences.
  • Many of our children remain in Group Homes until their 18th birthdays, because, unfortunately, they do not have family resources equipped to support them. We help them prepare for their transition into adulthood by working hard to weave them into the safety net present in their communities.
